ART PRO VLA Professional Vactrol/Tube Leveling Amplifier

January 16, 1997 -- Applied Research and Technology is proud to introduce the PRO VLA Professional Vactrol/Tube Leveling Amplifier, a studio quality, dual channel leveling amplifier and the newest addition to the A R T Vactrol Compressor line.

Similar in design philosophy to classic tube limiters, the PRO VLA utilizes a VCA-less design for premium performance. The PRO VLA design features an electro-optical (Vactrol) and vacuum tube electronics which deliver vintage sound without added noise. It is this circuitry combination that gives the PRO VLA its warm, vibrant sonic flavor reminiscent of classic compressor/limiters. The PRO VLA is as imple to use as a contemporary compressor. As with classic compressors, it levels out the signal as pposed to altering the complete dynamic range. The PRO VLA provides the fast, punchy and transparent haracteristics of the "LA-" type levelers (due to very fast attack and release response times), and a finely uned auto setting which behaves more like vintage stereo Neve modules - providing a smooth, loud, and fat sound.

The PRO VLA features balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS input and output connections, with input impedances of 20K ohms (XLR) and 1M ohms (1/4"). The output impedances are 600 ohms (XLR) and 300 ohms (1/4").

The Pro VLA has a frequency response of 10Hz to 20KHz (+/- .5dB), a dynamic range of >100dB (20-20kHz), THD at 0dB out of <0.1% (typical), an equivalent input noise (EIN) of -99dBm ('A' weighted) for XLR to XLR connections, and -97dBm ('A' weighted) for 1/4" to 1/4" connections. The unit has an attack time of (Fast) 2ms, (Slow) 100ms to 3 seconds, a variable slope from 2:1 to >10:1, maximum attenuation of 30 dB, and an internal power supply.
