Fender Tex-Mex Strat and Tele Specials

Tex-Mex Strat Special Tex-Mex Tele Special

January 16, 1997 -- Adding even more flavor and bite to its sizzling line of Tex-Mex Stratocaster guitars, Fender Musical Instruments has just released the Tex-Mex Strat Special and the Tex-Mex Tele Special . Both guitars, which are made in the company's state-of-the-art factory in sunny Baja California, possess some spicy bells and whistles that are bound to delight guitar aficionados for years.

The Tex-Mex Strat Special comes equipped with two Tex-Mex single-coil neck and middle pickups, and a Tex-Mex humbucker bridge pickup. "The single coil pickups are specially wound to give the guitar a high-end sparkle, while the humbucker provides that extra punch, bite and drive that a lot of players crave," noted Mike Lewis, Fender's marketing manager for electric guitars.

Its cousin, the Tex-Mex Tele Special, boasts a Tex-Mex humbucker neck pickup and a Tex-Mex single-coil Telecaster bridge pickup "for that signature Tele snarl," Lewis added.

Both guitars, whose bodies are made of light poplar, feature smooth, one-piece, satin-finished maple necks (rosewood fingerboard also available for the Tex-Mex Strat Special), 21 medium-jumbo frets and vintage hardware. What's more, both are available in Black, Candy Apple Red, Brown Sunburst, Vintage White and Sonic Blue. U.S. suggested retail price for each guitar, including deluxe gig bag, is $649.99.
