Finale 3.7 for Windows

January 16, 1997 -- Coda Music Technology, Inc. has added dozens of time-saving enhancements, including powerful new text and graphics tools, to version 3.7 of Finale, the world's leading music notation software.

The new upgrade package, available for $79.95 to users of Finale 3.5 For Windows, follows the company's milestone announcement last December of a major price reduction of Finale from $749 to $545 - -a reduction of more than $200.

"Coda's goal, quite simply, is to give Finale users greater control over their time, their music and their art," said Ron Raup, president of Coda Music Technology. "We are confident that these new enhancements will greatly reduce the time they need to achieve dramatic results."

Among the significant improvements in Finale 3.7 is the introduction of a powerful Text Tool, which allows users to create, edit, place and resize text anywhere directly on the score. In addition, the user can mix fonts, styles and sizes freely for text' textblocks, text titles, staff and group names-and all without losing any format links.

Finale's new Graphics Tool is another major step forward, offering tremendous flexibility and functionality. For the first time, users can export any part of any score as a BitMap (BMP), TIFF or EPS file into virtually any publishing application, and print it out on any printer. Going the other way, users can place any WMF, BMP, TIFF or EPS file, from company logos to specially designed symbols, directly into Finale 3.7.

Also under the hood of Finale 3.7 is Enhanced Chords, a powerful new feature which allows chords to be entered directly on the score. Here's how it works: choose the new "Type Into Score" entry method, click on a note and begin typing. Finale automatically translates the root and alternate bass notes into the selected display style. New styles include European, Roman, Nashville and Solfeggio, in addition to Standard and German.

Finale 3.7 also presents a host of useful MIDI features, including:

  • Record on any number of selected staves simultaneously;
  • Bank Select in the Instrument List, Staff and Score Expressions, and the MIDI Tool open up unlimited MIDI patch possibilities;
  • MIDI Clipboard support offers easy transport of MIDI data between Finale 3.7 and programs that support MIDI Clipboard;
  • Count off in HyperScribe and Playback makes recording easier and more exact;
  • Pitch representation of MIDI notes: A2, C#6, etc.

Other key components of Finale 3.7 include easy addition, removal and editing of measure numbers and measure number enclosures; a faster part extraction process; colored tools for easy identification, and a new Staff Tool which consolidates all aspects of a particular musical staff into one easy-to-find place.

PC Magazine has described Finale for Windows as "the most powerful music notation package available for microcomputers." As the industry standard, Finale has won five consecutive World Class Awards from MacWorld magazine and more industry awards than any other notation program.
