Pro Tools®|24 to Deliver 64 Tracks of Record and Playback

January 29, 1998 -- Digidesign has announced Pro Tools® software version 4.1.1 and introduction of Pro Tools|24 Expansion kits for release in February. In an impressive performance breakthrough, this free software update supports PT|24 system expansion with optional second d24(TM) and DSP Farm(TM) cards - a configuration that delivers up to 64 tracks of recording and playback, depending on hardware configuration.

Pro Tools|24, released in September of last year, provides 24-bit resolution, up to 32 tracks of recording and mixing, and 24 channels of I/O capability with a single core system for under $8,000. The Pro Tools|24 core system is comprised of the d24 card, the DSP Farm(TM) and Pro Tools 4.1.1 software. The optional 888/24 I/O Interface TM is purchased separately.

Other new features in this free update include:

  • d24 Sound Output Drivers, allowing non DAE-based applications from Digidesign Developers to use the d24 card for 16-bit output via Sound Manager.
  • Compatibility with Audiomedia III and PowerMix
  • Minor software enhancements
