New From Guild
January 29, 1998 -- Three F-30 models from Guild Guitars bring the sound of the '60s to the present day. The folk-style, body of the guitar features a solid spruce top with a high gloss lacquer finish and a three-piece mahogany neck. The 24 3/4 inch scale of the F-30 series creates a softer feet and a chordal harmony not found in longer scale guitars. The F-30R features solid rosewood sides and back; an ebony fingerboard and bridge, and gold diecast turning machines. The F-30 HG differs from the F-30R in that it has a solid mahogany body, back and sides, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge; and diecast tuning machines. The F-30 HR has a handrubbed satin finish, solid mahogany back and sides; rosewood fingerboard and bridge; and diecast tuners. Optional features on all three models are a Fishman transducer and a pre-amp. Each comes factory-equipped with longlasting Guild L3 50 phosphor bronze strings. F-30 SeriesThe F-30 was closely associated with Paul Simon and many other artists of the '60s era. With its grand-concert body shape, the F-30 is comfortable with a well-balanced tone. The customized brace pattern produces an ultra responsive top with a very quick response. Guild Acoustic ElectricsCrossroadsDesigned by guitarist Slash, who first sketched the guitar at a roadside diner in Hollywood, the Crossroads model is both an acoustic and an electric. The carved mahogany body is solid under the six string and has an acoustic sound hole and chamber under the twelve string. The guitar features a custom double neck 6 and 12, a high gloss lacquer finish, a maple top, a mahogany neck, Seymour Duncan pickups, and a Fishman transducer and preamp. Comes factory equipped with long-lasting Guild L3 50 phosphor bronze strings. The Crossroads is truly a no-holds-barred guitar which players can use for any style to change quickly from acoustic to electric, without having to switch from one guitar to another midway through a live performance. Slash specified that he wanted to create the same Guild tone that he uses in the studio, but live on stage. This guitar can do both. X-150 SAVOY(TM) & X-150D SAVOY(TM)Jazz players, take note: the X-150 Savoy(TM) is the only Guild model with a new single humbucking pickup in the neck position- Features a laminated maple top, back and sides, bound top & back (white/black/white), no binding on the "F" holes. It features a 3-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck, a single bound rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, chrome hardware, and master volume and tone controls. The X-150D Savoy(TM) has the same features, but with two humbucking pickup. The X-150 Savoy and the X-150D Savoy are straight-ahead, no frills, full-body workhorse jazz guitars with the classic sound and playability for which Guild is famed. S-4CE BGBee Gees' Barry Gibb's signature acoustic/electric guitar. Features a solid carved Honduran mahogany body with a custom gloss finish, a solid spruce top, a mahogany neck, 25 5/8" scale, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, gold tuners and Fishman transducer and preamp. The Barry Gibb S-4CE is available in custom metallic blue and transparent crimson finishes only, personally selected by Gibb. Comes factory-equipped with long-lasting Guild L3 50 phosphor bronze strings. In this unique acoustic/electric model, the solid Honduran mahogany body creates an acoustic chamber with added resonance not found in traditional ,guitars. This allowed Guild to build a small body for the S-4CE BG that has the sound of a big guitar without the inherent feedback problems that can be found on a loud stage. Fender ran a Guild Prize Plan U.S. dealer promotion/contest in October 1997 for consumers to test-drive Guild acoustic/electrics. More than 400 dealers participated. Consumer winner Lloyd Schwartz flew to Las Vegas in November 1997 to see the Bee Gees perform at the MGM Grand at a pay-per-view concert that later aired on New Year's Eve 1997. The grand prize was the Barry Gibb Limited Edition Guild S4 prototype that was awarded to Schwartz backstage after the concert. Schwartz test drove the Guild guitars at Sam Ash in New York City. Starfire Bass IIThe Starfire Bass II is a modern version of a '60s classic. It has a double cutaway/thinline semi-hollow body bound on the top and back with a laminated mahogany top, back, and sides. Features an ultra-slim mahogany neck with a 30 3/4" scale length, a rosewood fretboard with dot inlays and no binding. Also includes original style machine heads, Chesterfield headstock inlay, new style trussrod cover, two Guild humbucking bass pickups, two volume, two-tone knobs, master volume control, three-way toggle switch with chrome tip, and and a redesigned old style bridge and tailpiece. Lightweight and versatile, the Fender Starfire Bass II was favored by Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, and Lovin' Spoonful. In this updated edition, the upgraded pickups have more full range than the original and the newly designed bridge produces better tone and intonation. The overall bass sound is big, warm, and woody. Its slightly shorter 30 3/4" scale combined with the ultra slim neck makes the Starfire Bass II ultra-comfortable to play. Guild Custom ShopThe Valencia(TM) nameplate returns to Guild after a long absence. With design elements of the original 1950s F-40 and the 1997 45th Anniversary, the sunburst Valencia features solid curly maple back and rims, ebony fingerboard and bridge, natural abalone and pearl top trim, and the "Deco" series fingerboard inlay. Like the other Guild Custom Shop acoustic models, the Valencia features a triple-A grade Sitka spruce top with the Guild Custom Shop's signature "floating X" scalloped bracing pattern. With the handcrafted combination of ebony, spruce and maple, the Valencia's tonality is improved. The maple body produces a brighter sound with cut and definition.
