Korg Announces TR-Rack

Rack-Mounted version of Trinity Synthesizer

January 29, 1998 -- Korg is announcing the release of the TR-Rack, a one-rack-space synthesizer featuring the ACCESS (Advanced Control Combined Synthesis System) tone generation system, the same system used on Korg's highly popular Trinity synthesizers. As a result, the Korg TR-Rack offers the highest fidelity PCM playback with unparalleled expression and modulation capabilities.

The 16-part, multi-timbral Korg TR-Rack holds 32 MB of PCM-encoded samples which play back at 48 kHz to ensure the highest quality sound fidelity. In addition to the full soundset of the Trinity, the TR-Rack has an additional 8 MB of new PCM data, including the best sounds from the Trinity's four wave expansion libraries. This adds up to a massive 415 multi-samples and 458 drum samples. Each sample is taken from the finest instrument of its type being played by the best musicians.

Other ACCESS specs include 32-note polyphony, dual multi-mode resonant filters (high-pass, low-pass, band-pass and band-reject modes available), eight EGs, two LFOs per oscillator, single-dual oscillator modes with velocity switching per oscillator and extensive modulation possibilities.

The TR-Rack offers the most comprehensive effects capabilities of any synthesizer currently available. It features a stereo digital multi-effects system with the ability to have up to 10 effects simultaneously (eight insert and two master effects). With 100 types of insertion effects, six kinds of master modulation and eight types of master reverb/delay programs, the tonal possibilities that the TR-Rack offers are virtually limitless. Additionally, the TR-Rack provides four individual outputs for critical mixing applications.

The Korg TR-Rack takes the original Trinity sound complement even further. In addition to the full pre-load of sound data from the Trinity, the TR-Rack offers two new banks of programs and combinations (up to eight programs per combination) for a total of 1,024 sounds, many of which were created specifically for the TR-Rack. Sound tweaking, using the unit's large, backlit 40-character display, is easily facilitated on the TR-Rack; in the unit's Program Edit mode, the most important parameters have been selected and arranged for easy editing. For more detailed editing, the TR-Rack comes with a special Emagic SoundDiver editor/librarian software for the Trinity, which allows users to do detailed editing on their PCs (Mac and Windows). The TR-Rack also has optional ADAT interface capability for direct digital connections with any ADAT-type recorder, or for sending the four audio output signals digitally to any mixer, external signal processor, computer card or recorder equipped with this popular interface. The TR-Rack from Korg is simply the most audiophile sound generation system available - its level of quality is consistent with Korg's leadership in synthesizer and sound technology. The Korg TR-Rack is available now and has a suggested list price of $1399.00.
