dbx Silver Series 586 Dual Vacuum Tube Mic Preamp

January 29, 1998 -- dbx Professional Products inaugurates the worldwide launch of its new Silver Series with the debut of its first offering, the dbx 586 dual-channel tube microphone preamplifier.

The silver 2U dbx 586 offers all of the features one could possibly want in a preamp, including large, custom-designed VU meters that monitor drive level, gain reduction or output levels, +48V Phantom Power, 20dB pad, phase invert and low-cut filter. Goldplated Neutrik XLR mic and 1/4-inch TRS line inputs make the 586 versatile enough to use with virtually any source device, from microphones to instruments. Also add to this an impressive list of 'standard feature' extras like a three-band EQ with sweepable mids and adjustable mid Q (with hardwire bypass switch), available insert chain and the new PeakStopPlus(TM) limiting topology.

Two hand-selected and matched premium 12AU7 vacuum tubes are utilized by the dbx 586 to ensure ideal triode gain matching, distortion, microphonics and drive characteristics. These 12AU7s provide 586 owners with bothincredible tube warmth and unparalleled tonal versatility.

Behind the dbx 586's stunning brushed-silver aluminum face is an all-metal chassis that is incredibly rugged and durable, while two solid handles on the front panel are offered for easy lifting and rack installation.

And, with dbx's optional patent-pending TYPE IV(TM) conversion system, 586 users can capture the essence of tube processing directly into the digital world without leaving the box. The digital output offers the ability to communicate in either AES/EBU or S/PDIF and 16- or 20-bit word lengths. In addition, TYPE IV offers the ability to select noise shapes algorithms and dither types that best suit its users' music and medium.

Available by NAMM '98, suggested U.S. retail price on the dbx 586 Is $999.99.
