Apogee Announces AD8-113 Master DTRS TapeJanuary 28, 1999 -- Following the success of its existing digital media products - including the extraordinarily successful recordable CD, the renowned Apogee Master DAT, and ADAT - Apogee Electronics, the Santa Monica-based world leader in digital audio conversion and media products technology, is pleased to announce the latest addition to the line: Apogee Master DTRS tape for Tascam and Sony DTRS machines. The Apogee AD8-113 will be on sale from September 1998, offering 113 minutes of reliable DTRS recording. "We have delivered a robust, durable metal particle formulation with a reliable conventional binder system to maximize the tape's durability in multi-pass operations such as overclubbing and editing," stated Richard Wilson, Apogee's Media Product Manager. "As a result signal loss is minimal, even after repeated passes," he noted. "Enhanced archive capability is another advantage of the Apogee AD8-113 tape construction over other formulations," Wilson went on. "Archiving is becoming more of an issue, as digital audio packing densities increase," he continued, "especially with the use of 'bit-splitting', where multiple MDM tracks are used to record data streams of higher resolution." Apogee Bit Splitting, or ABS, is one such 'break-through' technology, used by an increasing number of audio professionals employing the enhanced resolution of Apogee analog to digital converters - such as the AD8000 - to produce high resolution stereo and surround-sound masters on modular digital multitrack machines such as the DA-88. "An increasing number of mastering houses accept ABS tapes," Wilson commented, "and the technique allows existing recorders to be used for state-of-the-art high resolution mastering." Tapes with alternate playing times are planned for the future and the AD8-113 DTRS tape comes with a full 90-day replacement warranty. For more information, visit www.apogeedigital.com.
