Arboretum Debuts New TDM Effects, Mix+ Compatiblity

January 28, 1999 -- Arboretum Systems is premiering Mix+ compatibility and three new effects in their Hyperprism™-TDM sound design software for Digidesign Pro Tools/TDM at the NAMM convention in Los Angeles this week.

First introduced in 1994, Hyperprism is a set of digital signal processing tools that feature intuitive gestural control over effect parameters. Hyperprism-TDM version 2.5 is Arboretum's high-end pro version, offering real-time in-line non-destructive audio processing, with full dynamic control over every effect setting.

New processes in Hyperprism-TDM version 2.5 include:

  • Harmonic Exciter - Brings startling amounts of sparkle, clarity and air to any track, or an entire mix. New Arboretum technology targets a specific range of the frequency spectrum and synthesizes new harmonics from that range, creating vibrant high-end. Select either bright or warm harmonics; control crossover frequency, amount of harmonics and effect mix.
  • Bass Maximizer - Fattens up the bottom and makes the low end really boom, adding punch, not muddiness. Provides dynamic control over lower frequencies that simple EQ can't duplicate. Creates the vivid perception of deeper bass without adding large amounts of low-frequency energy. Creates "odd" or "even and odd" harmonics
  • Tube/Tape Saturation - Crank up the heat on a mix, or add fire to any track with this effect that simulates tube overload and tape saturation. Select effect quality level, and choose between several types of "tubes" and "tapes." Offers selectable levels of warmth and gain.

Key features in Hyperprism-TDM 2.5 include:

  • Now Compatible with the new Mix+ signal processing cards
  • Improved Filters and Noise Gate
  • Play effects like they were musical instruments with parameter change automation. Hyperprism responds to every gesture, remembering and recreating each move and parameter change.
  • All effect parameters, including stereo input gain, can be assigned to Hyperprism's Blue Window(TM) for real-time gestural control over simultaneous multiple parameter changes.

All of the following effects are included in Hyperprism-TDM version 2.5:

Harmonic Exciter - Bass Maximizer Tube/Tape Saturation - Pitch Changer - Noise Gate - Ring Modulator Doppler - Low pass / High Pass Filter - Band Pass / Band Reject Filter - Flanger - Phaser - Chorus - Tremolo Vibrato - Auto Pan - Stereo Dynamics - Quasi Stereo - More Stereo - Hyper Stereo - M-S Matrix - Balance Synchronous Crossing Pan - Asynchronous Crossing Pan Synchronous Sweeping Pan - Asynchronous Sweeping Pan - Sonic Decimator™

Built especially for electronic music production and film/video sound design, Hyperprism is a signal processing software package offering a vast assortment of different audio processes - a virtual rack of effects - which can be "played" much like any musical instrument. Featuring dozens of different processes, Hyperprism is the most complete collection of digital audio software effects in the world.

Use Hyperprism -TDM's Blue Window to get effect settings fast, or generate effect variations, then enable the Pro Tools automation features to edit and play back dynamic parameter changes in real-time. Users can design subtle, evolving changes, or make radical sweeps through the settings, creating outrageous new sounds and effects.

Winner of the 1999 NewMedia magazine Hyper award for best signal processing software, Hyperpdsm-TDM is in daily use by hundreds of recording studios, post-production facilities, multimedia developers, game designers and broadcast professionals. No other TDM plug-in package gives this much control over this many effects. Hyperprism is developed and marketed by Arboretum Systems, Inc., a privately held California software company. Hyperprism-TDM version 2.5 is now available at a suggested price of $499, international pricing may vary.
