New Technics SX-PX336 and SX-PX338B Digital Pianos

January 28, 1999 -- Equipped with a high-capacity, multi-track sequencer, a floppy disk drive for recording and playback of material, and a variety of exciting features for achieving grand piano sound, Technics new PX Series digital pianos are poised to impress the most discerning of musicians.

"The possibilities are endless with the new SX-PX336 and SX-PX338B digital pianos," says Dan Slick, assistant general manager, Technics Musical Instruments Division. "Playing pre-arranged pieces backed by the sound of a true Concert Grand piano or using the piano's pre-recorded sequences to augment original scores are just a couple of examples."

Five-track recording and 16-track playback enable performers to play along with a pre-recorded sequence or compose their own sophisticated multi-track sequences. A 4-track sequencer stores up to 20,000 notes, all ready to invigorate any performance. In addition, a separate rhythm sequencer allows recording of up to 8 different drum kits.

With a 3.5-inch floppy drive for recording and playing original and pre-arranged musical compositions, both of these models offer compatibility with standard MIDI files (format O\I), the Disk Orchestra Collection, and the Piano Disc Library. Musicians can also save their performances to a disk for playback at a later time. With resonant bass, sparkling midrange, and crystal-clear treble, piano sounds in the PX series are rendered with vigor and depth.

The unique Piano Ambiance Effect helps pianists deliver performances suited to a variety of settings. Engage this function to add intensity and breadth to the piano depth or turn the setting "off" for a more intimate setting. A Grand Piano feature, an incredible array of tones, timbres and acoustic nuances-from piano-pianissimo to forte-fortissimo-produces a sound that's rich, clear and textured enough to delight even the most trained ear.

The acclaimed Technics concert touch Dynamic Action Keyboard provides a natural, grand-piano-like feel and quick response for added effect. Additionally, Dynamic Let-Off Action, included on the SX-PX338, recreates the feeling of key release experienced on a Concert Grand: attacks feel and sound natural, while trills are crisp and clear. The enhanced speaker systems, powered by internal switching amps that provide a commanding 200 watts of power, faithfully reproduces the range and depth of a true grand piano.

Providing an expressiveness to match that of the musician, the pianos offer 64note polyphony. Fast scales, arpeggios and even complex chords are rich and satisfying. These models also include a variety of preset organ and string sounds and access to more than 300 Technics and General MIDI sounds. A new LCD display, with two backlit lines of up to 16 characters each, help the pianist easily activate and monitor the piano's features.

For added flexibility, both models also have a standard three-pedal design. In addition to the usual sustain and soft pedals, the models of the new PX series feature a fully functioning sostenuto. A new microphone input makes vocal accompaniment possible, and a Vocal Reverb effect can be used to enhance vocals.

The SX-PX336 digital piano is available in black wood grain or simulated cherry wood grain finishes, with a large, sturdy music stand. It will be available in March, 1999. The SX-PX338B comes in a deluxe high polish ebony wood grain finish. It will be available in June, 1999.
