Yamaha BBG4S and BBG5S Bass Guitars

January 28, 1999 -- Building on a long lineage of first-class bass guitars, Yamaha introduces two new models to its venerable BB line at Winter NAMM-the BBG4S and the BBG5S-which offer professional-strength construction, the sonic power of active electronics, and Yamaha's patented player-friendly feel, all at a price the working musician can handle.

"The BB Bass series is a stunning display of craftsmanship," notes David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group. "It artfully blends classic heritage with modern technology to make a truly unique instrument, fit for even the most demanding of players."

Both models combine elegant, traditional styling with a full complement of contemporary features. The main difference between the two is string configuration: BBG5S offers the extended harmonic range of a 5-String; BBG4S is for the player who prefers a more traditional 4-stringed bass.

The union of Alder body and bolt-on Maple neck with 34-in. scale Rosewood fingerboard lends each of the new basses a punchy natural tone, while the comfortable 24-fret neck allows bassists to reach their full harmonic potential. Other features include Gold hardware, a heavy-duty die-cast bridge, and an array of attractive finish options, including Black, Lake Blue, Violin Sunburst and Pearl Snow White.

On stage and in the studio, the new BBG4S and BBG5S deliver top-flight tone, thanks to a powerful arsenal of electronics normally unheard of at this price point. A pair of active Alnico Humbucking Pickups, mated to Active Master Volume, Pan Pot, and EQ controls (Bass Boost/Cut, Treble Boost/Cut) cover the widest possible timbral palette and take full advantage of these instruments' musical potential. As Gary Cook, product manager, Yamaha Guitars, states: "Our new BBG4S and BBG5S bass guitars include two humbucking pickups and active electronics for a powerful, punchy tone. Bass players will also love the exceptional feel of these instruments."
