Yamaha Launches MT400 Cassette Multitrack
January 28, 1999 -- Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, introduces the newest addition to their industry-leading line of cassette-based multitrack recorders, the MT400. This new unit delivers the sonic quality and solid construction that Yamaha recorders are famous for, while adding the most extensive mixing and input/output capabilities available in its class. The MT400 has a MSRP is scheduled to ship in February, 1999. "The MT400 provides first-time users with an easy-to-use, yet flexible machine," states John Schauer, product manager, Pro Audio Group. "The onboard mixer and extensive connectivity options make this a unit which will not be quickly out-grown." The MT400's mixing section features four mono and two stereo input channels.Inputs one through four provide impedance adjustment allowing for a wide range of different sources such as guitars, microphones and keyboards to be easily connected without the need for additional adapters. Line-level stereo sources, such as sound modules and drum machines, can be connected directly to the MT400's two stereo input channels. Three bands of high-quality equalization on input channels one through four of the MT400's mixing section provide tone-shaping capabilities far superior to those of many competing products which provide only two-band EQ. Channels one and two also feature conveniently located insert jacks which allow for the quick connection of compressors and other audio processors which play major roles in contemporary recording. Adding further to the mixing section's flexibility are two auxiliary sends on each of the MT400's mono input channels. This invaluable feature allows for the easy connection of external effects processors, such as Yamaha's own REV100 Reverb. The MT400 transport runs at both the standard speed (1 7/8 ips) or high speed (3 3/4 ips) . This allows the user to record with maximum fidelity, and still be able to listen and record at the slower, standard speed. There is also a pitch control to allow "tuning" of the MT400 to the instrument being recorded. For those interested in adding electronic and MIDI-based instrumentation to their recordings, the MT400 provides a dedicated sync output which allows sync signals from external sequencers and workstations to bypass the onboard dbx' noise reduction during recording and playback.
