Yamaha Introduces MU15 Tone Module
January 28, 1999 -- Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, introduces the newest addition to their highly-acclaimed line of portable music-making devices, the MU15 Palm-Top Tone Module. This new unit delivers 676 high-quality, XG/GM-compatible instrument sounds and 21 drum kits in a package no larger than a VHS-format videocassette. The MU15 is scheduled to ship in February, 1999. "The MU15 delivers substantial music-making power for musicians on the go," states Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments (DMI). "Its small size and rich sound make the MU15 the perfect addition to any set-up in which portability is a concern." Yamaha's inclusion of both MIDI and serial connectors on the MU15 greatly expands the unit's flexibility in a wide variety of situations. Direct serial connection makes the MU15 the ideal addition to any laptop computer for "on-the-road" composition, without the need for a bulky MIDI interface. On-board MIDI connectivity makes integrating the MU15 into any large-scale studio set-up a simple matter. The MU15 also features a large LCD display which makes set-up and use a highly intuitive process. The unit's built-in keypad allows for easy data entry and configuration.
