Yamaha RM1X MIDI Sequencer/Remixer
January 28, 1999 -- Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, introduces the RM1X MIDI Sequencer/Remixer at this year's Winter NAMM show. This new product delivers a unique and powerful feature set making it a valuable member of Yamaha's "24/7" line of products for the DJ and Dance production markets. The RM1X is currently shipping. "The RM1X has the power, flexibility and ease of use that today's musicians are looking for," states Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments (DMI). "Innovative features such as Play FX represent a significant new way for dance and Hip Hop musicians to quickly create non-stop grooves." The RM1X's extensive "Play FX" features include several real-time MIDI processes that can be applied dynamically to song data as it plays. These include: the harmonizing of parts with octave and unison parameters, clock-shifting to move instrument tracks forward or backwards in time, note-duration quantizing and the ability to modify note velocity. In addition, the RM1X's intuitive interface provides users with complete real-time control over important voice parameters including filter cutoff, resonance level and envelope decay. At the heart of the RM1X's musical power is Yamaha's AWM2 synthesis engine, providing 32 notes of polyphony divided among 16 timbral parts. A sizable selection of 654 voices and 46 drum kits covers all major stylistic areas, making it a simple process to find the perfect instrument for any arrangement. Three high-quality, on-board effects processors are also provided, allowing users to produce finished mixes using just the RM1X. Available effects include assorted types of reverb and chorus as well as 43 different "variation" effects. These include a wide variety of other popular effects such as phasing, flanging and distortion. The RM1X's "Digital Low-Boost" function provides users with complete control over the lower end of the frequency spectrum, allowing a boost or cut of up to 24 dB in the area of 50 Hz - 2 kHz. The RM1X's sequencing section delivers a professional-level timing resolution of 480 ppq and a sizable memory of 110,000 note events. An onboard 3.5-in. 2HD/2DD disk drive with the ability to import and save song data in Standard MIDI file format is also included. This valuable feature allows users to easily transfer song data from computer-based sequencers and synthesizer workstations into the RM1X. To help users get started creating music right away, the RM1X also features a library of over 7,000 drum, bass, guitar, percussion and keyboard phrases. These musical phrases are organized into various styles including: Trance, Trip Hop, Hip Hop, Acid Jazz, House and Techno. For more information, visit Yamaha's web site at www.yamaha.com.
