Yamaha Announces YDP101 Digital Piano
January 28, 1999 -- Yamaha Corporation of America announces the introduction of the YDP101 Digital Piano at Winter NAMM '99. This piano is in a home-style cabinet, with three pedals and 88 keys. In the past, if you wanted Yamaha Digital Piano quality, you would have to spend more or settle for a smaller keyboard. "This new piano is the first 88-key piano for distribution to the portable keyboard market," states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. "It has been assumed that a home-style, 88-key digital piano that would meet Yamaha's standards of quality and performance could not be produced at it's price. As a result, this huge, entry-level market has been left to lesser brands of lower quality. The YDP101 changes all that." The Yamaha YDP101, with its rosewood finish and home-style cabinet, is attractive enough to complement any living room, but durable and functional enough to work in educational and industrial environments. Nothing was left off the long list of features of the Yamaha YDP101. The list includes 32 notes of polyphony, with Yamaha's "Light Weight AE" action. Add to that five voices with one variation each, including stereo piano, electric piano, strings, harpsichord, and organ. The list continues with an LED display, adjustable reverb, adjustable touch sensitivity, two-track sequencer, metronome, transposer and more. Another innovation is the addition of a built-in song library consisting of 50 of the most popular piano songs complete with the music book. The left hand is recorded on Track One and the right hand is recorded on Track Two, allowing the user to practice one hand at a time. The Yamaha YDP101 reaffirms the Yamaha tradition of producing world-class products at affordable prices.
