dbx Offers 223XL & 234XL Crossovers With XLR Connections

January 28, 1999 -- dbx Professional Products is now offering its dbx 223 stereo two-way/mono three-way crossover and dbx 234 stereo three-way/mono four-way crossover in new "XL" versions featuring TRS differentially-balanced XLR ins and outs in place of their previous 1/4-inch connections. Perfect for permanent installations and touring PA systems alike, the new 223XL and 234XL models continue to represent breakthroughs in price and performance.

Like their 1/4-inch-ready siblings (which are still available from dbx), both units feature switches on the rear panel for stereo or mono operation, LF mono sum (for a subwoofer feed) and a range of individual channel crossover frequencies. LEDs on the face plate indicate when "x10" switches on the back panel are activated and whether the unit is in stereo or mono mode. Recessed 40Hz low cut (HPF) switches on each channel are available to remove unwanted low frequencies. Both the low and high outputs on each channel have a gain control ranging from -¥ to +6dB to allow muting of individual outputs and for level matching. These outputs each have front panel switches that can be used as either phase reverse or channel mutes.

Like all dbx products, these crossovers are extremely well built. Both the 223XL and 234XL feature Linkwitz-Riley 24dB per octave filters, regarded as the professional standard. The rotary controls on the face plate solidly "click" when turned for precise level adjustment. A high-quality power supply is housed inside the unit, eliminating the need for annoying wall-warts, while a switch on the rear allows the user to easily adjust operating voltages when overseas. Suggested U.S. retail price on the dbx 223XL is $299.95, while the dbx 234XL retails for $349.95. For those not requiring XLR connectors, dbx continues to offer the original versions of each model for $50.00 less than "XL" price.
