January 28, 1999 -- dbx Professional Products introduces two new digital output cards—the 704X and 504X—which bring the pristine sonic performance of digital to dbx’s popular Blue and Silver Series processors.

dbx 704X

Designed for installation in a 160S/160SL Compressor or dbx 786 Microphone Preamplifier, the dbx 704X brings the following features to dbx’s Blue Series:

Sample rates at 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, or 96kHz
Dither outputs to 16, 20 or 24 bits using TPDF or SNR² algorithms
48-bit internal signal path for increased headroom and low level resolution
Type IV™ A/D Conversion System
Sync input/output using dbx’s own proprietary clock chips for extremely low jitter sync
Two user-selectable noise shaping algorithms for lower perceived noise floor
AES/EBU format on a gold-plated Neutrik XLR and S/PDIF format on a gold-plated RCA coaxial connector

dbx 504X

Designed for use in dbx’s Silver Series products—the 566 Compressor, 576 Microphone Preamplifier/Compressor and 586 Microphone Preamplifier—as well as the 1086 Microphone Preamplifier Processor, dbx’s 504X card offers the following features:

Sample rates at 44.1kHz or 48kHz
Dither outputs to 16, 20 or 24 bits using TPDF or SNR² algorithms
Type IV™ A/D Conversion System
Sync input/output using low jitter phase-locked loops
Two user-selectable noise shape algorithms for lower perceived noise floor
AES/EBU format on a gold-plated Neutrik XLR and S/PDIF format on a gold- plated RCA coaxial connector

Suggested U.S. retail price on the dbx 704X is $799.95, while the dbx 504X is available for $399.95.
