Plug-ins come full circle: Karlette is a free, realtime VST tape-loop echo emulation plug-in from Steinberg that sports a nifty interface with pan and high-frequency roll-off controls for each virtual tape head. Better yet is the Sync button for locking individual delay times to song tempo via VST 2.0. Best of all: it's free.

Waves' UltraPitch plug-in (included with the Waves Pro-FX TDM Bundle; also available for other formats) was used on this a bluesy vocal riff. The results? A rich major triad harmony section that implements the original vocal track as the root note. Sounds cooler than it reads.

Cakewalk's Amp Simulator DirectX plug-in (from the Audio FX 1 bundle) was used on this clean PRS Custom electric guitar rhythm track. The first phrase is dry, the second processed with the "American Lead" amp model and the final section kicks in with an emulation of a ballsy British crunch amp with a 4x12 open-back cabinet enclosure.

Using the same guitar track, Sonic Foundry's Flange/Wah-Wah DirectX plug-in (from the XFX 3 collection) was used to create slow flange and auto-wah effects.

FilterTaps is one of 74 VST plug-ins included with Cycling '74's Pluggo suite. The vocal track starts dry, then the filtered taps kick in after the first phrase. Note the individual filter frequency controls under "Hz," all of which can be proportionately controlled via mouse using the Global Frequency Scale box.
