I like the rock/heavy metal sound. With the humbucker, this sound is there. I bought this guitar on a wimp from a store that was going out of business. I paid $250. I looked at the "string-thru-body" design and knew the sustain I would get. I studied the design visually, played it for 5 mins or less without plugging in and instantly knew that this was a gift horse and I was not going to look it in the mouth. Pay the man and BOOK.
When I got home I plugged it in and played. The first thought was OMGod this thing feels and sounds just like my LP XPL (Explorer headstock). Basically it occured to my I was playing a Fender version of a 1986 Gibson LP XPL. Awesome!!! Don't hold me to this, but I believe the sounds and feel are extremely close to the Gibson less the weight and price. Based on feel, I'd say it is the same scale as the Gibson. Anyway , you get my point. The sound is rich and full, non-noisy and loaded with tone, the sustain excellent. I recently read that this line is being courted by collectors.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The set-up on the Venus is A+. Action great and intonation on target. I don't know who gets creadit, the factory, the dealer or both. Anyway, I wish more sellers would see how important this is.
The fit is sweet. The workmanship demands a higher price. The only place I can fault them is in the finishing department. The paint/lacquer on the back has developed a minor line. A bit unsightly but no one sees it but me. The beautiful pearlized pick guard needed a screw added along it's screwline around the neck pickup (north end). However, the playabilty, sound and fit say "This is destined to be a classic guitar." The neck/fretboard particularly stand out as far as finish are concerned. As good as it gets at any price. Oh, STAYS IN TUNE! Overall 9.

I've been playing about 28yrs. I've owned the LP XPL and a Strat back in '79. This guitar is definitely a winner. As of Jul 04, these guitars are going for around $350-$450 on ebay. Very well spent money. I'm telling you, this is Fender's LP. If stolen I'd track another down on ebay.

Bought it new in 1999. Made in Japan, I believe. 22 frets. It has a volume knob and a 3-way selector. Still, I would pick it over the 5-way and tone knobs of a strat any day, mainly because of the humbucker, which provides incredible variety.

I love the sound of this guitar. You can go from totally clean to growly with the flip of the switch. Great variety. I've tried it on multiple amps and with different effects and it always works very well.

I really like it. The variety of sounds is great. Don't be scared off by the fact that it's a Squier- this is a high quality guitar that you'll really enjoy.
