KAMAN Music Presents Best Band On The Net Contest
October 21, 1998Several of the leading companies in the music industry
have joined together to develop what will surely be one of the hottest promotions
this summer, The Best Band On The Net. Coined "The coolest invention since the
Internet", The Best Band On The Net is a global competition to determine the best
unsigned band. A prize pool of tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise
has been assembled from Kaman Music Corporation's Ovation, Takamine, Hamer, Gibraltar
and Toca brands; D'Addario, Lexicon, Paiste, Remo, Shure, Telex, TKL cases, Vater
and non music industry companies Boston Acoustics and Vans Shoes. Media sponsors
are Modern Drummer, Guitar World and JAZZIZ magazines and Pop Stick records.
The Best Band On The Net is unlike any other "battle of the bands" contest
in that it will involve the on-line community plus celebrity judges. These judges
are Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Ken Block (Sister Hazel), Jonathan Moffet (Michael
Jackson), Ricky Lawson (Eric Clapton) and Pete Escovedo. Bands will enter by sending
in one song which will be encoded and streamed on-line at www.BestBand.com.
Visitors to this Web site will be able to listen and vote for their favorite band
over a two month period of time. At the conclusion of the on-line voting, the
top ten bands will be determined and these songs sent to the celebrity judges
who will select the Best Band On The Net. The selected Best Band will receive
the top prizes from the sponsors with the 9 runner ups also being rewarded from
the prize pool.
