RME's most popular digital audio card, the DIGI96/8 PRO, is shipping in an
updated revision. The new version with a dark blue PCB design has been updated
to the current development state of the DIGI96/8 PAD. This includes a high-grade
DA-converter, providing 106 dBA signal-to-noise at the analog stereo output. This
chip also includes a stepless volume control for the analog output, adjustable
by two sliders in the driver's settings dialogue. Also derived from the PAD is
a special Speaker Protection circuit for users of active monitors. This innovative
add-on minimizes noise at powering on/off the computer, thus protecting high-end
speakers from being damaged.
The digital part has also been improved by adding three features of the DIGI96/8
PAD. The PRO can now be used as a real-time ADAT to/from S/PDIF converter. Enhanced
Zero Latency Monitoring allows the pass-through and monitoring of the input signal
independently from the current clock situation, thus not only in master and slave
mode, but even at different sample rates. Finally, a jumper on the board allows
the start-up format to be set to ADAT or S/PDIF. With this, problems when booting
the computer while connected to digital mixing desks with unstable ADAT inputs
are avoided.
Even with these improvements, RME reduced the recommended retail price by
10% (from 990 DM to 890 DM). RME products are being distributed in the United
States by SEK'D (www.sekd.com).
