Martinsound is introducing surround sound mixing professionals to the ForMAX surround
monitoring formatter. The ForMAX formatter, a companion product to the very successful
MultiMAX multichannel monitor controller, is a programmable 24 input, 8 output
crosspoint matrix that replaces patchbays and connector panels to provide an accurate,
repeatable means to reformat a surround sound mix, or to monitor multiple submixes
or stems simultaneously. ForMAX and MultiMAX may be integrated with any stereo
mixing console to add extensive monitoring and routing capabilities in any current
surround sound format.
Monitor source selection and format settings are created, stored and recalled
using ForMAX's LCD setup menu window and front panel controls. The ForMAX formatter
will store and recall many different routing and format setups, facilitating instant
reset of console, recorder and surround sound monitor assignments, thereby providing
fast, precise changeovers between projects and sessions.
The 1U rack-mounting ForMAX formatter provides connections for 24 recorder
return and 24 mix bus inputs, each with individual recorder/mix (or PEC/Direct)
monitor selection. Meter output connections are provided for the 24 monitor sources
selected to the reassign matrix. Up to 5 ForMAX units may be linked to provide
up to 120 playback and 120 direct input sources.
Three user-definable mute groups may be memorized. A mute mask may be created
within each group to include any combination of inputs and outputs. An auto-clear
function removes the selected group setup from memory. The solo system works similarly.
An option to add PEC/Direct and Record paddle switches to the console, with
user-definable group or individual operation, is planned for ForMAX and, in combination
with an optional machine control interface, will bring the power of a film dubbing
monitor system to any mixer.
