BitHeadz is proud to announce that 2.0 versions of the Retro AS-1
software synthesizer and Unity DS-1 software sampler are now shipping.
The version 2.0 release of Retro and Unity share many new features and
enhancements such as optimization for the latest Apple and Pentium
processors and DirectConnect support for Digidesign hardware and software.
Other shared features include new effects and filter types, audio I/O
mapping for Direct I/O and ASIO devices, and a controller mapper that
allows you to assign any 8 controllers to any other 8 parameters.
Retro and Unity boast many new features of their own as well such as
Unity's powerful loop processing features and Retro's external audio
input function. Features for both applications are listed below.
Unity and Retro Shared Features:
- Macintosh G4 (Altivec) and Pentium III (SSE) optimization
- Increased maximum number of voices
- DirectConnect support for Pro Tools 5 integration
- More filter types, slope, threshold, comb
- More insert effect types including pitch shift, multi-tap chorus,
degrade, compressor
- Improved reverb algorithm, (early reflections)
- Automatic publishing of OMS and FreeMIDI names
- 8 assignable controller remappings: any controller to any othercontroller
- Audio input/output matrix for ASIO and Direct I/O devices allowing 32
separate channelized outputs
Unity DS-1 version 2.0 Features
- Support for up to 128 MIDI channels with OMS and FreeMIDI applications
- Adjust sample tempo without changing pitch
- Sample markers user-defined for oscillator stretching
- Micro-tonal tuning per program, up to 128 notes defined
- Completely revised sound set including 12MB General Midi Bank
- Option to add samples to keymaps via white keys, black keys, or all keys
- Load bank programs individually
- Zone crossfading in addition to version 1 cross switching
- Editor can audition through sample engine
- Phat.Boy support
Retro AS-1 version 2.0 Features
- External audio input to ring modulator, filters, and trigger
- Stereo signal path for oscillators and insert effects
- More oscillator types and improved oscillator resolution and fidelity
- Stereo individual channel outputs via Rewire
- Ring modulator
- Delay parameter for all modulators
- Improved user interface
- Over 1400 patches including presets by Sound Burst of Italy
Retro and Unity retail for $259 and $449 respectively. Version 2.0
upgrade incentives are available for registered BitHeadz users. Windows
versions of the software are under development and will be shipping soon.
Retro and Unity support MAS, DirectConnect, Direct I/O, ReWire, ASIO,
DirectSound, and Sound Manager.
