PRESS RELEASE

Igor Engraver, Music Notation Program, Goes Freeware

July 6, 2000

NoteHeads AB is proud has announced the launching of Igor Engraver, an advanced music notation program designed to revolutionise the work of composers, arrangers and publishers all over the world. The program is the brainchild of composer and programmer Peter Bengtson, who developed it with the assistance of, among others, Anders Hillborg, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Bengt-Arne Wallin.

By releasing Igor Engraver as a freeware product, NoteHeads aims to establish its digital storage format as the standard for the distribution of sheet music on the Internet. This standard will then serve as the basis for NoteHeads On Line, a distribution system for publishing, storing, distributing, listening to and selling sheet music on the Internet. NoteHeads On Line will be available to publishers and sheet music distributors wishing to sell their products on the Internet. The new system is set to revolutionise the sheet music business, which is currently based on obsolete and ineffective technologies.

NoteHeads On Line comprises two major components:

  • NoteHeads Reader, which allows pieces written in Igor Engraver and saved in NoteHeads Reader format to be downloaded to a computer, where it can be played back or printed on paper.
  • NoteHeads Commerce Server, which handles sales functions, watermarking for copyright purposes and statistical data on work sold.

More about Igor Engraver

Igor Engraver, the result of five years’ development work by NoteHeads AB, is a program featuring sophisticated graphic capability and true WYSIWYH (What You See Is What You Hear) for real playback quality. The program is an advanced tool for composers, musicians, students and others actively involved in music notation.

Igor Engraver was designed by musicians for musicians and combines centuries of traditional engraving expertise with modern programming technology. Thanks to its superbly designed, intelligent playback technology (patents pending), the program interprets the written music just as a musician would. It also allows pieces to be transferred from studio to studio without alteration.
