Version 1.5 of Maestro 2000 adds a variety of computer aided performance features
and analysis capabilities. Maestro's ability to set up to 256 tracks from a midi
file to follow a player is expanded with the concept of trigger notes.
Trigger
notes allow a performer to mix playing parts of follow tracks along with play
tracks. The way it works is that a midi note number is selected as a trigger,
and when Maestro processes the play tracks and finds these trigger notes the software
looks at all the follow tracks and builds sequences that will be triggered when
this trigger note is played. The trigger note is muted on the play track. These
sequences extend to the next regular note or chord on the play track or up to
the next trigger note. An unlimited number of trigger notes can be added to the
midi file that is being performed in Maestro. Maestro's ability to follow a player is even better in version 1.5.
In addition to graphical timing analysis, version 1.5 adds real-time graphical
rhythm analysis which shows the rhythmic deviation for each note or chord played as
it is played. This technology speeds up learning dramatically. A player can easily
see where the performance of a composition is off and how to correct it.
The analysis
console for version 1.5 is further improved by the addition of a precise karaoke lyric
display. Each syllable highlights exactly when it should be sung relative to the players
performance. In other words, if a lyric event is suppose to be sung when the first note
in measure 8 is played, it will highlight at exactly that time or even at a slight
delay if thats the way it appears in the midi file. This allows a player and vocalist
to stay in sync more easily, and the vocalist can actually see the rhythm of the vocal performance.
Version 1.5 processes the entire song for relationships relative to the track
or tracks that are being played resulting in improved accompaniment. Here is one
example of this : If a follow track event occurs at the same time in the midi
file as a play track event that follow track event will play exactly when the
play track note is played. This allows the software to respond instantly and automatically
to dramatic changes in tempo. Version 1.5 also includes a manual real-time tempo
control which can be mapped to a continuous controller or midi note. The tempo
controls move the tempo up or down relative to the tempo map. A set trigger can
also be defined to return the tempo immediately back to the tempo defined in the
tempo map.
Version 1.5 also includes a shockwave product presentation which walks a user
through getting started with the software, with both visual aids and audio. This
presentation also includes a new song called "Star Gazer". "Star
Gazer" was actually written, composed, performed, and recorded, in under
24 hours by Joe Paladin, the president of Paladin Enterprises.
