Zoom PS-02: Recording Studio in the Palm of Your Hand

(Click for a close-up)
August 29, 2000

The new Zoom PS-02 Palmtop Studio combines a "smart media" multi-track recorder, drum and bass machine, guitar multi-effect processor and amp modeler in a super compact device small enough to fit in your jacket pocket.

Three available audio tracks are recorded directly onto a Smart Media card. A bounce function available with panning capability allows you to overdub or mix audio tracks onto a buffer track for an endless number of audio tracks. A punch in/punch out function is also available.

The PS-02’s Virtual track function lets you record ten "test takes" on each of the audio tracks. One of these takes can be selected and played back.

You can get approximately 17 minutes of recording time in Stereo "Hi-Fi" mode with a 64MB memory card. Or over 2 hours in Mono "Normal" mode with a 128MB memory card.

A selection of High-quality stereo drum patterns, drum kits and bass sounds can be sequenced as a basis for your recording.

You also have a range of Zoom guitar multi-effects to choose from in addition to guitar and bass modeling sounds using proprietary VAMS technology that offer the same quality as the GM-200 Guitar Amp Modeler. There are also dedicated Vocal effects that can be used with the PS-02’s built-in dynamic microphone plus mixdown effects for mastering.

In addition to its sub palmtop size, other PS-02 features include a back-lit LCD display, a built-in dynamic microphone and Auto-chromatic tuner, battery operation, and supplied accessories such as an 8 MB Smart Media card, Power Supply unit and a belt clip.

The new PS-02 has an MSRP of $649.99.
