November 8, 2000Arboretum Systems is now shipping a free Digidesign RTAS format
update version of its acclaimed Ray Gun noise reduction software.
Ray Gun is built especially for cleaning up the sound of scratchy old vinyl, hissy tape and other problem
recordings. Ray Gun selectively reduces or removes hiss, hum, crackles, pops and other unwanted audio, while
leaving the original signals intact. Pull out the Ray Gun for fixing staticky telephone recordings, reducing
background noise from dialog, even getting rid of pesky “line noise.”
Ray Gun is simple to use: Just point and shoot to zap the noise from any sound file. Ray Gun’s slick black interface
makes it fun and easy. There’s no confusing dialogs or menu options, just listen to the preview, select the type of
noise reduction you want and adjust the amount. Ray Gun will locate the noise components in any signal and wipe
them out automatically. Combining sophisticated pop and click detection with complex spectral analysis,
downward expansion and notch filtering, Ray Gun is like the science fiction weapons it was named after: Small,
simple and packed with devastating technology.
Ray Gun is the perfect accessory for CD-ROM burners, allowing you to improve the quality of SDII and AIFF files prior to creating an audio CD.
Ray Gun runs in real-time on Power Macintosh computers that are 200 MHz or faster.
Play any audio signal into your sound input and instantly zap the noise from it with Ray Gun, while routing the
signal back out to your tape deck or other recording device. No file acquisition (and no extra hard drive space) is
necessary.
Ray Gun works with all the popular Digidesign sound cards. AudioSuite support means that Ray Gun also works
outside of real-time, in a traditional file-based processing mode. Ray Gun runs on a Digi 001 configuration but also on any Digidesign Pro Tools system, and can even be used with
the Avid Media Composer 7.0 and Avid Xpress 2.0 non-linear video editing systems.
Ray Gun has a U.S.
suggested retail price of $99, international pricing may vary. Ray Gun version 1.2 is now shipping and is a free
