PRESS RELEASE

SPL-td1 Loudspeaker from Sound Physics Labs

March 26, 2000

Sound Physics Labs introduces the SPL-td1 loudspeaker, a single acoustic source trapezoidal loudspeaker capable of operating in two-way or three-way active or passive modes, truly acoustically arrayable.

This latest loudspeaker from Sound Physics Laboratory's sound engineer/designer Thomas Danley combines the outputs from multiple drivers to drive a single horn, while allowing each driver to operate in its own frequency range. This configuration results in a seamless transition across the frequency range and is automatically time/phase correct. With unusually low "side spill" and excellent pattern control, the SPL-td1 delivers fully intelligible sound even in "poor" acoustic environments and produces clear and articulate concert level music.

The cabinet houses two 12-inch low frequency drivers, four 5 1/4-inch compression loaded mid frequency drivers and a one-inch high frequency horn in a Unity Summation Aperture (Patent Pending). The SPL-td1 offers two-way or three-way active configuration in addition to passive mode operation. While in passive mode operation, a high frequency boost/cut control allows users to increase the high frequency sensitivity to meet application requirements. Amplifier capacity in passive mode operates at 800 watts RMS, 20Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity at one-watt, one-meter is 103dB SPL (one unit). The SPL-td1 boasts a frequency response of 80Hz - 20kHz +/- 2dB in passive mode. Crossover points occur at 300Hz and 1200Hz.

The SPL-td1 weighs 130 lbs., is 29"H x 23"D x 19"W, and is constructed of Baltic Birch on a 30-degree trapezoid angle. The back panel gives users the option to use two x NL8 (Active) and two x NL4 (Passive) connectors. Fittings include pole cup and four handles. ATM AMFS Series recessed track hardware makes flying the boxes a snap. Standard finish is a black catalyzed texture coat. The SPL-td1 can also be ordered in white or a variety of natural wood finishes.

ServoDrive is currently compiling detailed ratings for all operational modes that will be made available at www.servodrive.com.
