System 6000 OS Update Announced
November 23, 2000TC Electronic is pleased to introduce the latest
software revision of the System 6000, Version 1.20. The new update
includes more robust SMPTE automation, enhanced networking capabilities for
remotes and mainframes, and an improved version of the popular VSS-5.1
Surround Reverb algorithm. These new features are offered free of charge
to System 6000 owners as part of TC's ongoing dedication to customer
support and the development of the System 6000 platform.
In addition to the SMPTE time-code reader introduced in software release
1.10, Version 1.20 now allows you to create SMPTE Automation Cue-lists,
enabling automated Program changes in both Engine and Scene presets. The
Cue-list operation is easily accessible from the ICON touch screen
interface with a new tab called: AUTO. By having the Cue-list generated
from the ICON it is possible to have one common Cue-list for several 6000
Mainframes at the same time. Custom user cue-lists can be stored and
instantly recalled.
Version 1.20's enhanced networking capabilities now provide the ability to
connect several ICONs to control the same (or several) Mainframes. The
ICONs will update each other instantly, and it is possible to connect up to
10 ICONs to a single Mainframe. When setting up several ICONs and
Mainframes's in a LAN (Local Area Network) without having a server-based
setup, you must add in a standard HUB and use standard Ethernet cables.
For customers who want to use several ICONs and/or Mainframes, TC
Electronic now offers a four-port HUB. In even bigger setups larger HUBs
may be used and TC customer support is available for help and advice.
The new software Version 1.20 has also implemented improvements, changes
and additions to several of the parameters in the VSS-5.1 Reverb algorithm. Now it is operated more like a five-channel version of the VSS-3
algorithm, (with normal frequency dependent multipliers in the diffused
fields etc.). Also offered are two new Location Types - Theater - a very
versatile, smooth sounding medium sized location and - Living Room - a
damped location for Film- & Post-production uses and other applications
where ambience is critical. Additionally more VSS-5.1 Reverb and Source
presets are provided. The "new" VSS-5.1 Reverb algorithm replaces the
"old" one - though user presets are not affected and will still load and
run properly.
