PRESS RELEASE

Medéa Ships AudioRaid SCSI High-Performance, Low-Cost Disk Arrays for Digital Audio Workstations

AudioRaid used with Avid NLE by Paramount Pictures in the production of TV spots and trailers for this summer's blockbusters Shaft and Mission: Impossible 2

July 18, 2000

Medéa Corporation has begun shipping AudioRaid SCSI disk arrays designed to support professional-level digital audio workstations (DAWs) at a fraction of the cost of competing audio storage solutions, as low as $15/GB.

AudioRaid SCSI disk arrays are optimized to support the demands placed on storage systems by today's professional DAWs. Medéa's proprietary Audio Stripe Technology (AST) and integrated hardware RAID controller enable AudioRaid SCSI to support 64-tracks of 24-bit/96kHz audio in a single desktop unit. AudioRaid SCSI is equipped with an Ultra2 SCSI Low Voltage Differential (LVD) interface that allows SCSI cable lengths to 12 meters and burst data transfer rates up to 80 MB/second.

Working with AudioRaid SCSI is a breeze. The four-drive AudioRaid SCSI appears to the DAW as one large SCSI disk drive with a single SCSI ID. Users simply record all of their audio tracks to AudioRaid SCSI; no more juggling between multiple storage devices. Since any ambient noise can disturb the audio production process, AudioRaid SCSI is designed for ultra-quiet operation.

Paramount Pictures' in-house creative team, 5555 Communications, Inc., used AudioRaid SCSI and Medéa's VideoRaid RT disk arrays in the production of promotional spots and trailers for this summer's blockbuster films, Shaft, and Mission: Impossible 2. Joe Infuso, editor at 5555 Communications, commented, "AudioRaid worked exceptionally well in our Avid AudioVision production suite, which isn't surprising. Medéa storage solutions are easy to set up, faster than the competition and a fraction of the cost."

"Medéa has been very successful in supplying low-cost and easy to use storage solutions for nonlinear video editing applications. With our new AudioRaid SCSI disk arrays, we have taken our proven RAID controller technology and applied it to the requirements of professional digital audio workstations," said Roger S. Mabon, director of marketing for Medéa. "The result is a storage system that will support the editing of up to 64-tracks of high quality audio at street prices as low as $15/GB."

AudioRaid SCSI attaches to any Windows NT or Macintosh-based DAW equipped with an Ultra2 SCSI host adapter. As audio storage requirements grow, AudioRaid SCSI modules can be easily daisy-chained together for storage capacities up to 4.5 terabytes for an amazing 60 hours of 64-track, 24-bit/96 kHz sessions.

AudioRaid SCSI disk arrays are available in 60 GB and 120 GB capacities and have list prices of $1,649 and $2,099, respectively. AudioRaid SCSI is available from authorized distributors, value-added resellers (VARs) and mail-order suppliers. Call Medéa toll free at (888) BY-MEDEA for a list of these resellers.
