The Lace 900 Series: Modern Technology, Vintage Sound July 18, 2000Can a 21st century humbucker learn to growl like the single coil you'd find on a 1952 Goldtop?
The answer is yes. Lace Music Products has introduced its Ultra Vintage 900 Series, which duplicates the tonal qualities of the P-90s found on classics like the original '59 ES-330 and the '57 Junior, without abandoning the technology that eliminates feedback, hum, and general noise.
"It's nearly impossible to make a humbucker sound like a single coil," said Jeff Lace, vice president of engineering for Lace Music Products. "Nearly, but we found a way to make it quiet, yet still make it sound like these guitars."
The 900 Series captures yesteryear's tone through its innovative "sidewinder" design, that allows both coils to work together in creating a balanced response. The patent-pending design makes the 900 series a quiet pickup that sound like the original P90.
The PS-900 have a classic "soap bar" look, while the PD-910 delivers the same great sound but in the "dog ear" style. The PS-905 and PD-915 are the "bridge position" versions of the PS-900 and PD-910, respectively. All the pickups come with black, cream, or chrome covers.
The suggested retail price for all the Ultra Vintage 900s is $169.95. For more information, visit their web site at www.lacemusic.com. |
