PRESS RELEASE

3DPanner Studio Plug-In from Spin Audio

February 26, 2001

3DPanner Studio is an audio plugin available in VST and DX formats that allows to enhance your host application with a powerful 3D Positional Audio engine, so that you will be able to place your audio tracks in a 3D space around your head and arrange them within a single window.

The product incorporates expandable and flexible 3D Positional Audio engine based on HRTFs technique that supports multiple HRTF sets with distance zones for future expansion, HRTF subsets for performance tuning, distance simulation and two near field effects. The engine uses Intel's NSP library that provides highly optimized signal processing code that takes advantage of using SIMD extensions of PIII and P4 processors making 3DPanner Studio being very mean on cpu usage.

3DPanner Studio is shipped with a default 4MB HRTF Set based on data provided by CIAIR, Nagoya University, Japan. An alternative HRTF Set based on KEMAR data can be downloaded from SpinAudio web site and installed in addition to the default set. All the installed HRTF sets can be used also in other future SpinAudio products from 3D Positional Audio series.

The product interface is especially designed for positioning of multiple tracks in 3D space: Every plugin insert on a track in a host application is displayed in a big Pad window as an icon with a label. You can choose the icon from 32 built-in types, set different label color and change label text. It's also possible to select a custom font for labels and use alternative one-byte character sets so that you can use your native language for naming icons.

Positions and icon properties of all plugin inserts can be saved in a file and then loaded back making it easy to compare different arrangements in your project mix. To ease working with many track icons 3DPanner studio supports View Sets. With them you can group your tracks in sets and switch them to be shown or hidden. This is very helpful when you have some groups of tracks of one type and would like to arrange them one by one.

3D positioning in 3DPanner Studio is easy. You can switch between two positioning planes: horizontal plane where you place icons along left/right and front/back axis's and elevation plane where vertical icon position corresponds to elevation angle that can range from -90 (full beneath) to +90 (full above the head). Besides that in horizontal plane mode you can also switch between three distance fields: Far- Mid- and Near fields.

To provide maximum working convenience all product functions are accessible through keyboard shortcuts.
