July 18, 2001Wavelength Devices is proud to announce the release of its premier synthesizer plug-in for the CreamWare Pulsar/SCOPE platform: the hummel Gemini megasynth! The Gemini is now available ($129US) from the Wavelength.
Wavelength Devices synth-designer, Stephen Hummel, has released his own signature line of professional quality plug-ins for the CreamWare DSP platforms, called: hummel synthesizers. The Gemini was the first release of the new hummel line that now includes a drumbox called plasma, a lead synth called mutant, and a filterbank called the transfusion!
The Gemini synthesizer is a powerful new addition to any CreamWare Pulsar/SCOPE setup! Professionals like Charlie Clouser, the keyboardist and programmer from the band Nine Inch Nails (http://www.nin.com), have already included the Gemini and the whole Wavelength/hummel family of products in their kit-lists!
The Geminis features include:
32-bit resolution - so it is perfectly suited for use in 24-bit productions. Everything works in real-time with no latency!
VCO
- 2 multi-mode oscillators per voice, each with: sine, triangle, up saw, down saw, square (with pulsewidth), and an external input setting
- Both oscillators allow for extensive modulation capabilities to control pitch, pulsewidth and cross-modulation (see features)
- The second oscillator can be hard-synced to the first
VCF
- 2-stage filter (in series): flexfilter to a 2-pole filter mixer
- Both oscillators first pass through the hummel 'flexfilter': 1-pole, 2-pole and 4-pole filters can be selected, each allowing for lowpass, highpass, or bandpass
- Lowpass, highpass and bandpass levels can be freely mixed with eachother
- Cutoff and resonance knobs control all filters simultaneously (allowing for blended filter variations, etc); 1-pole filters do not allow for resonance control
- The filter levels can be mixed with an unfiltered 'dry' signal, direct from the oscillators
- All filters can be simultaneously fedback into themselves
- The flexfilter allows for extensive modulation capabilities to control the cutoff frequency (see highlights, below)
- Both oscillators then pass through the 2-pole filter mixer (in series from the flexfilter output)
- Lowpass, highpass and bandpass levels can be freely mixed with eachother
- Cutoff and resonance knobs control all filters simultaneously (allowing for more blended filter variations, etc)
- These second filter levels can be mixed with a signal that is not filtered by itself (flexfilter only)
- This second filter mixer also allows for extensive modulation capabilities to control its cutoff frequency (see features)
VCA
- Amp envelopes for each oscillator, individually + a final amp envelope that mixes both
- Individual level controls for oscillator 1, oscillator 2, tuned noise and white noise
- Final amplitude control before output, includes volume + boost
- The final volume controls can, again, be modulated extensively (see features)
- Global controls: coarse tune, fine tune, portamento/ glissando, pitch bend range
EFFECTS
- Includes 'crusher', ring modulator, stereo chorus and a stereo phase shifter
- 'Crusher' gives a low-fi, grainy and noisy texture to the output signal
-
The ringmod has its own mod oscillator that can be morphed from a sine to a punchy down-saw
- Wet and dry levels can be mixed, as well as a non-filtered ringmod signal
- The control oscillator can, itself, be controlled by a dedicated LFO
- A standard and clean-sounding stereo chorus is provided
- The chorus outputs are fed into a custom stereo phase-shifter (developed exclusively for hummel products)
- The phase-shifter allows for a wide array of timbre shifts and complex tuning variations
Highlights...
- Modular-style routing, extremely flexible, but without all the wires and sprawling surface panels
- Clean, intuitive design and layout
- Ultra-smooth control functionality (no zipping or popping)
- Authentic analogue-style sound capabilities
- Flexible mod-wheel control over amplitude, pitch and each filterbank
- Almost all functions can be controlled by the Gemini's unique and powerful modulation matrix:
- Velocity
- Aftertouch
- Osc 1
- Osc 2
- White noise
- Tuned noise
- Key follower 1
- Key follower 2
- ADSR 1 (which itself can be modulated by the other mods)
- ADSR 2
- Multi-mode LFO 1 (the frequency can be modulated by the other mods)
- Multi-mode LFO 2
- Multi-mode LFO 3
- Envelope follower
