Free Update Shipped to Users of Garritan Orchestral Strings July 10, 2002
The Garritan Orchestral Strings
has been supplemented with another FREE update to registered users
of the GOS Advanced GigaStudio version. This newest update is over
1.5 gigabytes in size and contains 400 new instruments on two CD-ROMs.
Moreover, it expands the total number of CD-ROMs in the GOS library from
16 to 18 CDs, increasing the library's size to over 10 gigabytes. "And there'll be more updates
coming later this year," announced Gary Garritan, producer of the GOS
string library.
Highlights of the new GOS update include the following:
- Release Triggers for the Sustain Instruments -- The first string library to provide release triggers. These high-quality release trigger samples capture the subtle release of the bow coming off the string, the body resonance of the instrument, and the ambience of the recording hall.
- Impulse Response Samples (Concert Hall 1, Concert Hall 2 & Vintage Hollywood) -- These are samples of actual halls for use in Sound Forge, Samplitude, Cool Edit and other programs. These effectively place GOS and other sounds in the same acoustic space. Benefit: Consistency of sound!
- Special "Performance Setups" for the GigaStudio DSP Station -- These setups pre-pan GOS string ensembles within GigaStudio and apply GigaStudio's NFX Reverb.
- "Grand Sustains" -- The Grand Détachés, one of the most popular and expressive instruments, are now looped to provide another sustain instrument.
- "Aggressive" Short Bow Instruments -- These offer very hard attacks for yet another articulation choice.
- "Looped" Sustain Instruments -- The sustain instruments for the KeySwitch & Lite are now looped.
- "Slides" Toolbox - New up and down slides at various intervals, as well as detailed tutorials on how to use the slides effectively.
- New "Key Switch" Instruments
- "Tender" Long Bow Instruments -- For soft, intimate passages!
- "Variability" Short Bow Instruments -- This inventive programming produces small variations for repeated tones within rapid short-bow passages. The user can control the intonation, character, brightness, attack and other parameters.
- Custom Modifications & Combo Key Switches - by composer Jeff Beal
- "Exaggerated Range" Instruments
- All "WARM" Library -- For a "warmer" sound across the entire library
- Extended Range (Short Bow Instruments)
- Maintenance Files
- "Ambient Noise" Samples -- Contained within a single .gig file, these are samples of the "air" of a concert hall, as well as low-level murmurs, body movements, shuffles, chair movements, instrument muffles, coughs, rustling, and other common sounds in a concert hall.
- MaestroTools XP -- This latest, easy-to-install version now works with Windows 2000 and XP.
- Virtual MaestroTools for the Emagic Logic Audio Environment -- by Roman Beilharz
- String Writing Course - Excerpts from Alexander University
- GigaStudio Mastery Tutorial - Excerpts by Dave Govett
- The Guide to MIDI Orchestration - Excerpts by Paul Gilreath
- Translator Demo with Giga File Viewer - from Chicken Systems
Garritan Orchestral Strings is a comprehensive and musically
expressive string-ensemble sample library. It was
recently crowned the "Strings of the Millennium" by PC & Musik
magazine. This library is so innovative that it was the first sample
library ever to win the Editor's Choice Award from Electronic Musician.
Sound On Sound magazine hailed the Garritan Orchestral Strings as "a
vast and groundbreaking piece of work," adding that "Once you're fully
acquainted with this library's depth and scope, you should be able to
use it to produce string ensemble performances of great subtlety,
expressiveness, and realism."
Recorded at the world-renowned Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts,
the stringed instruments in the GOS collection are among the finest in
the world (Stradivarius, Guarneri, Gagliano, Montagnana, Testore, among
many other exquisite instruments). The GOS library has a consistent and
balanced orchestral sound and offers unparalleled control: Expression
Control, Vibrato Control, Warmth Control, Key Switching, etc. It also
comes with an exclusive MIDI program called MaestroTools for the
automatic alternation of bow strokes (up-bows and down-bows), as well as
for producing expressive legato lines, either in standard polyphonic
mode or monophonic (mono) mode.
This update expands the library with new and unique features while
maintaining the original introductory price of $995. Tom Hopkins brilliantly most
of the new features in this update. However, some of the features have
been created by users, making GOS an evolving, open-source
library.
Suggested Retail price: $995 US with free updates for registered users.
