Musicnotes Launches Guitar Guru Sessions Downloadable Lessons
December 14, 2003
Musicnotes, Inc. has introduced a new learning tool for guitar players called Guitar Guru Sessions, incorporating Internet deliverable software and downloadable songs with printable sheet music.
The free Guitar Guru software allows a guitar lesson to be displayed on the user's Windows-based computer screen. Musicnotes will sell selected songs (Sessions) for use in conjunction with the Guitar Guru software. Although users do not need to read music, each song will also come with a printable version of the sheet music and guitar tab.
Guitar Guru allows musicians to hear the music while seeing both the left and right hand movements across a virtual guitar fretboard. Literally every note and effect is captured: guitar bends, vibrato hammer-ons and more. For example, in Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" all six guitar parts are included, representing almost seventeen full minutes of music, matching the original audio recording.
Users can also view both the fret-hand and pick-hand positions for appropriate finger placement, as well as adjust any song's tempo for easier learning. Guitar placement can be changed for right or left hand playing and different guitar models can even be incorporated into the screen image to more closely match the player's own guitar. In addition to MIDI, users can insert their own CDs and Guitar Guru Sessions will play the available songs synchronized to the original recordings.
The price of a single Guitar Guru Session ranges from $7.25 - $12.95.
The initial group of Guitar Guru Sessions features the following songs (with the respective performing artist or arranger). Additional titles are available and many more titles will be added in the months ahead.
- Classical Gas (Mason Williams)
- Eruption (Van Halen)
- Foolish Games (Jewel)
- Smooth (Santana)
- Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
- The Thrill is Gone (BB King)
- Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
- Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison)
- and more
