Ernie Ball Announces New Slinky Strings for Electric Guitar and 5-String Bass November 20, 2003
By popular demand, the Ernie Ball
Company will add two electric guitar string sets along with three new 5
string bass sets to its line of Slinky strings. The products will be officially
introduced at the Winter NAMM '04 show in January and ready to ship at that
time as well.
For guitarists, the Beefy Slinky and the Not Even Slinky electric strings feature thicker
gauges to create a bigger sound, optimal for players looking to detune their
instruments:
- Beefy Slinky adds a new dimension to the Slinky vibe by providing musicians with thicker gauges and a beefy bottom, in gauges .11 .15 .22P .30 .42 .54.
- Not Even Slinky strings are designed to provide the heaviest possible tone. Gauges are .12 .16 .24P .32 .44 .56.
Building off the 4 String Slinky line, the three new 5 String sets will cater to bassists seeking a variety of tonal options. Made from Nickel Roundwound wire, they are as follows:
- Regular Slinky 5 provides the best well-balanced tone to modern 5 string bassists. The gauges are .45 .65 .80 .100 .130.
- Super Slinky 5 offers bassists tonal warmth with a smooth feel and fit. Super Slinky 5 will be the choice for many top bassists. Gauges are .40 .60 .75 .95 .125.
- Power Slinky 5 provides bassists with optimal low-end tones for sonic pandemonium with gauges .50 .70 .85 .105 .135.
