Digital Audio Labs has announced their first new hardware product since the asset acquisition by LR Sound, Inc. Designed by the same engineering team responsible for the CardDeluxe, the CDX-D8 marks DALs return to professional computer interface technology.

"Our design goal was to create the most accurate, transparent path between external equipment and the computer system," said Mr. Klein, president and development director for DAL. "Early indications from our beta testers, including home studio users and world class mastering facilities, are that we succeeded. Also, several sites have made special note of the exceptional PLL clock stability."

Comprised of a single 3/4-length PCI card and included breakout cable, the CDX-D8 provides eight discreet channels of AES/EBU format audio on four XLR stereo pairs. Also included are word clock I/O (RCA) and two analog outputs (1/4 TRS) for convenient monitoring. The CDX-D8 employs high quality AES/EBU transformers and a low-jitter, custom PLL for clock stability.

The CDX-D8 supports sample rates from 32 kHz to 96 kHz at 16 and 24-bit resolution, with support for transferring non-audio data such as Dolby Digital (AC-3). Driver support for Windows MME and ASIO is included, with WDM planned for Q3 of 2004. Digital Audio Labs WavSync is also supported, allowing sample-accurate multi-card synchronization. Multiple CDX-D8 cards may be combined in this way to create a large multichannel system, depending on the OS and drivers used.

CDX-D8 is available from authorized DAL dealers and distributors as well as directly from digitalaudio.com.
