Legends of Jazz Drumming (Complete)
The Legends of Jazz Drumming is a collection of rare archival footage and interviews with and about some of the greatest drummers in jazz history. Part One (1920-1950) traces the history of jazz drumming in America from its earliest, pre-1920 roots to the advent of the be-bop revolution in the mid-1940s and beyond. It features archival film clips and photographs of the greats of jazz drumming, including Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Dave Tough, Kenny Clarke, and many more. Part Two (1950-1970) features clips and photos of Art Blakey, Ed Thigpen, Paul Motian, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, and many others.
Inspiring Drummers Series: Common Ground
Common Ground brings together the talents of Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, and Tony Royster, Jr. for an engaging look at how drummers seek and foster their creative inspiration. Experience stunning performances by the then 14-year-old drumming sensation Tony Royster Jr. and world-renowned funk master Dennis Chambers playing original music and drum solos. Legendary drum innovator Billy Cobham completes the bond these great drummers share. Inspirational and motivational, Common Ground forges three generations of drumming insight through great performances and revealing interviews.
Steve Smith: Part One
Steve Smith is one of the most accomplished drummers of our time. Steve studied with Gary Chaffee and Alan Dawson at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has performed on hundreds of records and toured with the likes of Jean Luc Ponty, Journey, Steps Ahead, Stanley Clarke, Randy Brecker, Victor Wooten, Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal, and Zakir Hussain. Steve also leads his own band, Vital Information, and continues to record and tour around the world. In 2001, Modern Drummer magazine named Steve one of the Top 25 Drummers of All Time, and in 2002 he was voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.
In this program, Steve demonstrates many of his methods and techniques, covering various methods for developing time and meter, and his personal approach to practicing. Steve is featured performing several incredible solos and in full-band performances with Vital Information. For more information, visit their web site at www.alfred.com.
