Radial Breaks Into AV Market With ProAV1 and ProAV2 Direct Boxes

December 16, 2005

Following the tremendous success of the Radial ProDI direct box, Radial has introduced two new DIs, specifically equipped for AV integrators and production companies, called the Radial ProAV1 and ProAV2.

These innovative 'Swiss army knife' DIs feature a full compliment of connectivity including standard 1/4" jacks for instruments, RCAs jacks for hi-fi gear, and 3.5mm (1/8") mini TRS making them ideal for interfacing computers and other -10dB consumer electronic devices.

The motor is a custom wound, high performance transformer that yields a linear response from 20Hz to 18kHz that is both warm and true. This is augmented with a mu-metal can that encapsulates the transformer to reduce potential magnetic field contamination from outside sources such as power transformers, dimmers and video screens. Anyone that has placed a speaker next to a video monitor knows how magnetic interference can disturb electron flow. In audio, the problem can be heard!

The forgiving nature makes the ProAV1 and 2 perfect mates for high output devices that can easily overload typical direct boxes. Furthermore, because both units provide transformer isolation, problems such as hum and buzz caused by ground loops are eliminated.

The ProAV1 is a single channel DI with stereo inputs and an auto merge function that mixes left and right signals to mono mic level at the XLR output. It is augmented with a +4dB balanced XLR input for interfacing pro gear such as VTRs. The ProAV2 is a straight ahead stereo DI that converts -10dB to mic level. For permanent installations, both units can be mounted in a podium or under a table top using the Radial J-Clamp or may be 19" rack mounted using the Radial J-Rak.

The ProAV1 is set to retail at $119 and the ProAV2 at $179.
