Glyph Technologies Ships GT-050Q Tabletop Hard Drive

January 16, 2006

Glyph Technologies is now shipping the new GT 050Q. Building upon the success of the original GT 050 which incorporated FireWire 400, the GT 050Q adds FireWire 800, eSATA and USB 2.0 ports.

The GT 050Q tabletop hard drive is available with up to 500GB capacity, and is designed for high-speed access to audio and video content. Offering flexible connectivity options, the GT 050Q can be used with any Apple or PC computer with FireWire, USB or eSATA ports. GT 050Q is constructed with durable stainless steel and uses tri-laminate sound-damping metal, which absorbs drive vibration before it can get to the chassis.

The GT 050Q is the first of Glyph's new products to utilize Seagate's new SATA drive technology, coupled with Oxford's 924 chip, and offering an eSATA port on the enclosure. Using eSATA, the GT 050Q can achieve transfer rates as high as 109MB/sec, making it a perfect solution for digital video editing and high sample-rate audio production.

Peter Glanville, Marketing Director for Glyph, commented, "The GT 050Q fills a need for users seeking faster audio and video storage solutions in a smaller footprint. Connecting the drive with FireWire 800 or eSATA in an audio environment will support high track counts, and striping two or more units together yields a high speed video RAID array."

Other members of the GT Series include:

  • GT 050 FireWire tabletop
  • GT 051 single-bay tabletop for hot-swappable GT Key FireWire drives
  • GT 103 three-bay single-space rack for GT Key drives
  • GT 205 four-bay 2U rack for GT Key drives and SCSI / FireWire expansion bay
  • GT 060BR FireWire 800 hardware RAID

All GT Series solutions are engineered to provide the highest level of reliability and performance. Enclosures have an internal power supply and a quiet fan, and tabletops are rack mountable with an optional rack kit. Integrity™, Glyph's FireWire hot-swap interface, provides greater reliability than existing hybrid ATA-to-FireWire products by allowing a drive to be removed from the enclosure while separating at the FireWire level. Focused on keeping your studio quiet, GT Series internal frames are constructed with sound-dampening metal to absorb drive vibration and reduce unwanted noise.

Backed by Glyph's legendary service and technical support, GT Series enclosures are covered under warranty for three years. Hard drives come standard with an additional Overnight Advance Replacement warranty in the first year. The GT Series is available through authorized Glyph dealers.
