Hosa Announces New Headset And Video Adaptors

December 6, 2007

Hosa's GMP-500 Headset Adaptor, featuring a 2.5 mm female TRS to 3.5mm male TRS configuration, is the latest addition to the company's growing line of 2.5 mm TRS cables and adaptors. These 2.5 mm TRS jacks, also known as subminiature or "submini" jacks, are common on cell phones, including BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphones, due to their diminutive size. The GMP-500 enables one to connect headsets with 2.5 mm plugs to iPods, other MP3 players, and cell phones/smartphones with 3.5 mm headphone/line-out jacks. Further, the GMP-500 enables one to connect a headset with a 2.5 mm plug to the 3.5 mm headphone/line-out jacks found on most late model airliners.

As there are many cell phones/smartphones with 2.5 mm headphone/line-out jacks, Hosa's new GMP-471 Headphone Adaptor is the answer to yet another common interface issue. Designed to interface 2.5 mm headphone/line-out jacks with standard 3.5 mm headphones, the GMP-471 is the opposite of the GMP-500 (3.5 mm female TRS to 2.5 mm male TRS).

Additionally, Hosa offers the GMP-467 Headphone Adaptor. With functionally identical to the GMP-471, the GMP-467 Headphone Adaptor is a 3.5 mm female TRS — 2.5 mm male TRS right-angle adaptor to facilitate those occasions where a straight adaptor may not be ideal due to space or other considerations.

While perhaps not as common in North America as in other parts of the world, many international airliners still utilize individual 3.5 mm outputs for left and right channels making it impossible to connect late model headphones. For the world traveler who has encountered this situation, Hosa has the answer: the new YMM-492 Air Travel Headphone Adaptor. This handy adaptor makes it a cinch to sum the individual left and right 3.5 mm outputs of the plane to a 3.5 mm TRS female receptacle, facilitating easy connection of stereo earbuds and other headsets using the common 3.5mm TRS male plug.

The Hosa GMP-500 Headset Adaptor and GMP-471 Headphone Adaptor carry a MSRP of $3.45. The GMP-467 Headphone Adaptor carries a MSRP of $3.75. Hosa's YMM-492 Air Travel Headphone Adaptor carries a MSRP of $5.50.

All four adaptor products are available now.

HOSA introduces SVR-487 Video Adaptor

Designed specifically for A/V contractors and others who need a convenient means of adapting two common video signals, the SVR-487 Video Adaptor enables one to connect a device with an S-Video output to another device with a composite video input. The SVR-487 also works in reverse.

Hosa's new SVR-487 Video Adaptor is terminated with a male S-Video connector on one end and a female composite video connector on the other. The adapter's overall length is 6 inches. The SVR-487 combines the chrominance (C) and luminance (Y) signals from S-Video into a composite video signal. This versatile adaptor features an internally-tuned and impedance-matched filter that maintains picture stability. For best results, Hosa recommends using the SVR-487 Video Adaptor with a high-quality 75-ohm composite video cable such as the company's DRA-500 series.

While not as common as S-Video to composite video conversion since composite video inputs are far more common than S-Video inputs, the SVR-487, nonetheless, works in reverse to connect a device with a component video output to a device with an S-Video input. This is accomplished by splitting the chrominance and luminance frequencies of composite video into the two separate S-Video signals.

The new Hosa SVR-487 Video Adaptor carries a MSRP of $10.35 and is available now.

All Hosa cables and adaptors purchased in the USA are warranted by Hosa Technology, Inc. to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the original purchaser.
