On Saturday May 19 the music industry will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Ibanez JEM electric guitar with the JEM's designer, rock & roll guitar legend Steve Vai. Musicians and fans will gather at Zone Music in Cotati, California, along with the President of Hoshino Corp. (Ibanez, and Tama Drums) Bill Reim, and the President of NAMM, Joe Lammond.
"I love Steve's musicianship," says Zone CEO Frank Hayhurst, "but it is the innovation, the creativity, and the sheer excellence of the JEM guitar that delights me and those who love great guitars."
The celebration will feature original design drawings, as well as members of the Ibanez team that builds this continually evolving instrument. Ibanez artists Doug Dopplar and Tommy Merry will perform, as well as the "Ibanez Allstar" band. The new JEM20th guitar, that lights up, will be featured as well as new models and Jem collections from around the country. Awards for creativity and support of independent music retailers will be presented to Steve Vai and Bill Reim. Also included is a day-long Tex-Mex BBQ.
The event starts at 11:00 AM, concludes at 4:00 PM, and is free. Check www.zonemusic.com for details on North Bay Area lodging options and more specific information. Other event sponsors include Marshall, Vox, Mesa Boogie, Digitech, Shure, Monster Cable and D'Addario.
