MakeMusic Releases SmartMusic 10.0 Music Learning Software
April 12, 2007
MakeMusic, Inc. announced today the release of SmartMusic® 10.0, a major update to the acclaimed
music learning software. Also released is SmartMusic Impact™, a
web-based student grading and records management system that saves music
educators time by computerizing the posting, grading, submitting and
managing of student assignments and their automatically assessed grades.
Together they provide music educators the means to guide, motivate and
inspire student practice time as well as a practical, realistic way to
document individual student progress and comply with current assessment
standards.
Most importantly, SmartMusic 10.0 and Impact transform the teaching of
the core curriculum of bands, orchestras and choirs: the preparation of
music for public performances, on which music teachers spend 95% of
their class time. In the past, SmartMusic has won awards for fostering
student achievement related to solo literature for contests. This
activity, however, is peripheral to the fundamental challenges of
preparing large ensembles for concerts. SmartMusic 10.0 and Impact
address these large ensemble needs and, for the first time, SmartMusic
is central to the primary objectives of school bands, orchestras and
choirs.
"We believe these releases present exciting new growth opportunities for
SmartMusic," stated John Paulson, chief executive officer. "Both
teachers and students will appreciate how much more fun and productive
their rehearsals are once they are supported with SmartMusic
assignments. We believe these SmartMusic assignments will dramatically
increase home subscriptions."
"Teacher reaction to SmartMusic and Impact is very encouraging," added
Ron Raup, president and chief operating officer. "It suggests that we
are providing teachers with a solution to improve their bands,
orchestras and choirs while being accountable to parents, administrators
and school boards."
