Museum of Making Music Hosts Second Annual World Music Summer Camp
June 23, 2007
On July 27, 28 & 29 the Museum of Making Music hosts its second annual World Music Summer Camp. This three-day percussion camp, for students ages 9 through 18, is a great opportunity for students of all musical levels to learn drums styles from around the world. From calypso to hip-hop and samba to rock this camp gives students a chance to experiment on drumset, hand drums and hand percussion.
Led by drummers, authors and educators, Ed Roscetti and John Snider, this camp covers a variety of traditional and hybrid musical styles in both classroom and ensemble settings. Playing in an ensemble gives students a better understanding of the drum & bass relationship, technique, time feel, rhythmic phrasing, song form and improvisation. Everyday each student has the opportunity to perform in a small and large group ensemble. This hands-on approach to drumming provides a unique opportunity for students of all levels to come together and communicate through rhythm.
The group will be divided by age group and experience level so they can increase their rhythmic vocabulary in an energetic, interactive and supportive environment. Each day ends in a group ensemble, giving students a chance to jam with all experience levels. The third day of ensemble class leads up to a 1PM final performance where family and friends are invited watch the campers showcase their newly developed rhythmic skills.
The cost is $250 per student and includes three days of small group instruction, development of technique, time, time feel, phrasing and song form utilizing the Rhythmic Guide and Five Steps to Musicality concepts, and giveaways from DW/Pacific, Paiste, Remo, Regal Tip, Vic Firth, Aquarian, Shure, Puresound and Hal Leonard. Equipment and drumsticks are provided on site. Come and play in the spirit of the grove!
The camp runs each day from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Museum of Making Music at 5790 Armada Drive in Carlsbad. Students are asked to bring a bag lunch.
