TrueFire, a leading interactive publisher of educational content for musicians, has released two new interactive video courses for guitarists. Total Modal examines the theory, harmony and application of 19 essential modes and scales, while Vamps, Jams, and Improvisation illustrates approaches for developing melodic and rhythmic ideas for soloing and comping over vamps. Both courses are available on CD-ROM or as a streaming video course on TrueFire's All Access TV.

Total Modal thoroughly examines the theory, harmony and application of 19 essential modes and scales for composition and improvising across rock, blues, jazz and popular music. The intensive study program provides a comprehensive framework for composing melodies and hooks, improvising over any set of changes, superimposing scales, creating progressions and constructing chords for any musical application. Presented by guitarist and educator Bruce Arnold, Total Modal is the definitive scale and mode application resource.

Vamps, Jams and Improvisation, presented by guitarist and composer Frank Vignola, covers melodic patterns, call and response, stutter picking, guide tones, horizontal lines, tone targeting, muffled arpeggios, chromatics, expressions, passing tones and other techniques for generating ideas on the fly. Vignola demonstrates how to develop ideas around unusual scales like the Super Locrian, Bartok minor and harmonic minor scales. Rhythm and comping are covered with equal emphasis as Vignola shows how to "lock up" with the band.

Both courses are optimized for intermediate to early-advanced players, each featuring 40 full-length video lessons, text overviews, practice tracks, standard notation and interactive Power Tab so users can "see" and "hear" the tab and notation played out at any tempo. TrueFire's interactive video software features zoom, frame advance, looping and other handy controls.
