American DJ has taken LED technology out of the red-green-blue groove with the introduction of three new DJ/club effects that can produce bright beams of light in as many colors as are in a rainbow. The company's new Tri Pearl LED, Tri Phase, and Saturn Tri LED System feature advanced-design LEDs, with each individual lamp capable of producing seven colors: yellow, purple, cyan, red, green, blue and white.

The secret behind this array of colors is American DJ's exclusive new Tri-Color LED Technology. Each of the effects' LED lamps is actually comprised of three different-color 1W LEDs, a red, green and blue. This revolutionary 3-in-1 design allows color-mixing to be done inside each individual lamp, creating a whole spectrum of color possibilities, unlike traditional LED effects with single-color lamps that can produce only one-color beams.

"Our new Tri-Color LED Technology gives lighting users the excitement of being able to create a variety of multi-colored beams, while at the same time enjoying all of the benefits of LEDs, such as a long lamp life, low power draw and cool operating temperature," said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies.

"With LED effects in the past, you were typically limited to red, green and blue beams," explained Davies. "In these traditional RGB LED fixtures, you could create different color washes by turning off certain lamps and using others in varying degrees of intensity, but each individual lamp was limited to one color. Tri-Color Technology takes LEDs to the next level by mixing colors inside the lamps, so that the lamps themselves change colors."

Here's how American DJ's Tri-Color LED Technology works: In the past, if you wanted to create the color purple with a traditional single-color RGB LED effect, you would have to shut off all the green LEDs, and only the red and blue lamps would remain on, producing a wash-like purple effect. But with the new 3-in-1 Tri-Color LED Technology, all lamps stay on continuously and the purple color appears in each lens, creating individual beams of purple light. Tri-Color Technology also results in a more vibrant, even-toned mixed color, and it eliminates the annoying multi-color shadows that commonly appear on objects and surfaces illuminated by single-color RGB LED fixtures. The results are beautiful, sharp, vibrant multi-color beams of even-toned color literally at the flick of a switch.

American DJ is introducing this remarkable technology in three mobile LED moonflower effects the Tri Pearl LED, the Tri Phase, and the Saturn Tri LED System. By offering three units at different price points, American DJ has ensured there is something for everyone from mobile DJs, to club owners to musicians and other lighting users.

All of the units provide users with the many benefits of LEDs, including long-life lamps that are rated at 50,000 hours. Extremely energy efficient, each unit has a bright output comparable to a 250W halogen effect, based on visual comparison, but draws only a fraction of the power. Here's a closer look at the new Tri-Color LED effects: Tri Pearl LED When a basic, but powerful, moonflower is desired, the Tri Pearl LED is the ideal choice. An extremely compact and lightweight high-output moonflower unit with a single 3W Tri-Color RGB LED, the Tri Pearl LED is perfect for mobile DJs, as well as small venues and events. Although it's compact, it still packs a wallop, with a wide beam spread and bright, rich saturated colors that look great with or without fog. The Tri Pearl LED is 9" x 11.75" x 8" and weighs 3 lbs. It has a high-tech, lightweight plastic case design and comes with a hanging bracket. The MSRP is $239.95.

Tri Phase A unique-looking moonflower effect, the Tri Phase features five hexagonal-shaped lenses that produce 57 beams of rich, color-saturated LED light. With a beam angle of 65, the Tri Phase LED's brilliant beams cover the dance floor with a display of gorgeous color. The unit can produce quick, accurate movements or slow, fluid moves, thanks to its 1.8 degree long life stepper motor technology. The Tri Phase measures 7.25" x 12" x 13" and weighs 4 lbs. Although comparable to a 250W halogen effect in output, the Tri Phase draws only 12.5W of power. The MSRP is $319.95. Saturn Tri LED System A four-unit system, the Saturn Tri LED System is a complete light show in a box that includes 4 x Saturn Tri LED fixtures, a universal UC-3 controller and 3 x 3-pin XLR linking cables. It's an ideal easy-to-use, all-in-one system for smaller clubs and venues. Each individual unit has six lenses that produce eight brilliantly sharp beams. It also has fast-to-slow strobing capabilities and 0-100% electronic dimming for an even greater variety of effects. Each of the Saturn Tri LED System's four units measures 8.75" x 12" x 5" each and weighs 4 lbs. Each unit draws only 7W of power. The MSRP is $899.95.

All three of the new Tri-Color Technology effects are DMX-512 compatible, having either 3 (Tri Pearl LED) or 4 (Tri Phase and Saturn Tri LED System) DMX channels. They can also be run as stand-alone moonflowers without a controller in Sound-Active mode, since they're equipped with exciting built-in programs. Like all LED effects, they run at an extremely cool temperature, so duty cycles are not needed.
