May 30, 2008

Easily create true 8 bit percussion from the NES sound chip with a new custom video game cartridge. For use with the vintage Nintendo NES called "Super Synth Drums" by ElectroKraft.

From Classical Guitars to the Depths of Digital Chips: "I began building classical guitars while still in college studying chemistry. This was the start of a journey of instrument building that somehow lead me to the study of Assembly Language programming. After making many electric guitar pickups and then discovering Circuit Bending, I became very interested in the concept of recycling old computers and video game systems for the creation of music." [Tony Amendolare, ElectroKraft.]

Testify:
Incorporating the 8 bit IC chip sound in music has recently become popular. However, using genuine sounds produced from vintage machines such as the Atari, Commodore and NES is much more than an aesthetic value, it has become an essential element in the creation of modern electronic music. In a world of virtual synthesizers, emulators and "plug-ins", resurrecting the sounds from a vintage machine or integrated circuit developed in the heyday of Silicon Valley is more than a gimmick, it is a testament to the history of human technology, and it sounds great.

Inspired by the genres of 8 Bit and Chip Music, where musicians use modified or recycled vintage computers and video game systems to create electronic music. The Super Synth Drums cartridge is played with the original NES gamepad controllers or with new after market gamepad controllers.

An 8 Bit Drum Kit?
Each button of gamepad #1 produces a distinctive 8 bit percussion sound. The directional keys of gamepad #2 are used to apply pulsing and looping effects. Additional effects can be created when used with gamepads that have rapid fire AA, BB, and slow buttons.
