Waves Renaissance Compressor Now Available for Native Processing Platforms

March 11, 1998 -- WAVES LTD., the leading supplier of DSP software for the professional audio and multimedia markets, today announced that the Renaissance Compressor DSP Plug In will be available for native processing environments including Adobe Premeire, Steinberg VST and Microsoft Direct-X. The Renaissance Compressor is a high end digital audio processor that re-creates the warm sound qualities and simple operation of classic analog hardware in the digital domain. The Renaissance Compressor was previously available for use with the Waves MultiRack' program, Digidesign® Pro ToolsTDM (NuBus/PCI), and Sound Designer II (NuBus).

Designed to be musical, not technical, the Renaissance line of Plug Ins has a clean and simple interface that is ultra functional with minimal clutter. The Renaissance Compressor is the first in the series which will include the most basic and simple audio tools including an EQ and Limiter. They are as simple to use as any classic processor with just a few straightforward controls and a simple interface.

New features include:

  • An internal limiter to prevent clipping. Any peak passing the 0 dB will automatically be limited by the famous L1 engine. It is now possible to add 6 dB or more to a track with low distortion.
  • An easy to use analog meter indicates the amount of limiting.

The Renaissance Compressor features classic '5-knob' controls: Threshold, Ratio, Gain, Attack, Release, plus a Mode control. Using the Mode button, choice of an overall response and control condition is set before adjustment. These modes include several automatic ones, plus full manual, plus a special analog warmth button can be engaged separately from the modes. Waves' innovative ARC (Auto Release Control) system is highly sophisticated new technology. Waves ARC system responds differently to peaks and RMS changes in the signal dynamics, much in the way the human ear does. Convenient presets from a configurable menu are starting points for easy tweaking, from Vocal to Master Programs to Supercrunch settings.

The Waves Renaissance Compressor will support the following platforms:

on Mac:
Pro Tools TDM, Pro Tools, AudioSuite, Premiere, Cubase-VST, Peak, WaveConvert Pro, SoundEdit 16, Deck II, Digital Performer 2.1, Logic Audio 3.0, Studio Vision Pro 3.5 and other platforms supporting the Premiere architecture

on PC:
Sound Forge (V4.0 or above), CakeWalk 6.0, Cubase-VST, WaveLab 1.6, CoolEdit Pro, WaveConvert Pro and other platforms supporting the Active-X plug-in architecture.

The Renaissance Compressor will be available at Waves dealers worldwide for a MSRP US$300.
