dbx Project 1 262 Compressor/Limiter

July 12, 1996 -- With the introduction of the new dbx Project 1 Series 262 compressor/limiter, audio professionals and amateurs alike can finally have the classic dbx sound at an unheard of price of less than $200.

The single-rack-space stereo compressor/limiter embodies the classic design and construction that have made dbx a standard in the pro audio industry. Simple to operate, the dbx Project 1 262 utilizes the same patented VCA found in many of the company's more expensive models to serve practically unlimited uses.

When recording to DAT or two-track, OverEasy(R) compression provides natural sounding gain control while keeping undesirable peaks and transients from blowing the mix. On guitar or bass, the dbx 262 can offer musicians the ultimate pop and punch. The compressor/limiter can also be called upon to put vocals at the front of a mix while maintaining overall mix continuity. The 262 can even help pull more overall volume from a PA system by controlling the peaks that would otherwise damage system components at high volume levels.

The dbx 262 compressor/limiter is a ruggedly built tool. Potentiometers on the 262 exude great precision, solidly clicking when turned. All inputs and outputs are TRS differentially balanced 1/4-inch jacks which are bolted down to the chassis to ensure the circuit board's safety in the event that a cable is yanked from the unit. A switch on the rear of the 262 allows for different operating voltages when traveling overseas, while an integral power supply eliminates the despised wall wart.

Additional features on the dbx Project 1 262 include:

  • Two channels of classic dbx compression/limiting
  • OverEasy(R) or hard-knee operation
  • Negative compression ratios possible
  • True RMS Power Summing
  • Internal transformer mounted in low hum orientation
  • CSA NRTL/C approved
  • CE compliant

Despite all this, the dbx 262 still boasts a manufacturer's suggested list price of only $199.95.
