New Composite Shell Technology from Grover Pro Percussion

July 11, 1997 -- This exclusive technology now features a pre-impregnated manufacturing process which offers precise control over wall thickness tolerances. Through a new heat treating process, resins are chemically unified with a synthetic fiber (E-glass) to form a thin drum shell with significantly enhanced resonance. During this process, a cross-linked reinforced composite is created which increases durability and strength by 40%.

"No other drum manufacturer currently offers this state-of-the-art manufacturing process," stated Andrew Rega, vice president of operations. "Our new Composite Shell Technology process creates a virtually indestructible, thin drum shell that resonates with a distinctive, powerful tone. Our CST Series Performance Drumsets and Snare Drums offer drummers an alternative to the traditional sound that wood shells produce."

Performance Series drums feature die cast "coffin-style" lugs with rubber bushings that allow the shell to vibrate freely, precision bearing edges for minimal head-to-shell contact, 2.3mm hoops isolated with nylon washers, and a nodal venting system which places an air-dispersion vent in the drum's "sweet" spot (near the bottom drum head) to produce a faster transient attack. Performance Snare Drums also features the new Performance Snare System non-spiral snare wire for increased projection and sensitivity and a Gladstone-style throw off.

In a drum shell analysis at a professional Boston recording studio, the resonance of Grover CST drum shells were tested against several Maple drum shells. The results indicated CST shells to be 2.5 times more resonant than Maple shells.
